Summer Transportation Construction Inspector (Seasonal) - Field
Join the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Engineering District 5 as a Summer Transportation Construction Inspector (Seasonal) – Field. This seasonal, full‑time role focuses on inspecting transportation construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, standards, specifications, and contract documents across six counties with the main office in Allentown, PA.
Responsibilities
Inspect materials and workmanship on road and bridge construction projects, including roadway overlays, widening, stabilization, earthwork, guide rail installation, and drainage systems.
Interpret contract requirements by analyzing specifications, drawings, and testing and inspection techniques.
Exercise independent judgment to make technical decisions on‑site and collaborate effectively with contractors and personnel.
Attend work sites Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–3:00 PM with a 30‑minute lunch; adjust hours based on vendor availability.
Travel to sites as needed and work overtime as required.
Qualifications
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; OR
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building/construction industry experience, including reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; OR
One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title); OR
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician I (Commonwealth or equivalent Federal title); OR
One year of construction inspection experience plus an associate’s degree in civil, mechanical, geotechnical, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related field; OR
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement
Possession of an active non‑commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
