Responsibilities
Travel to South Sumter High School, South Sumter Middle School, and Wildwood Middle High School to assist the primary clinic nurse in performing basic first aid as needed. Make referrals as appropriate and provide medications and emergency care as trained.
Maintain all daily clinic logs and individual student health records in the electronic database. Intake, track, log, and administer medications to students with various medical conditions as directed by the student’s medical provider after training.
Communicate with teachers, staff, parents/guardians, and physicians regarding students with medical conditions and review medical information submitted by parents in Skyward.
Assist the primary clinic nurse at South Sumter Middle School in performing screening tests—including vision, hearing, height, weight, BMI, and blood pressure—and record findings in students’ cumulative folders or database.
Identify students who perform unsatisfactorily on health screenings, follow up, and alert parents/guardians of abnormal findings.
Keep clinic clean and neat and maintain all equipment in a safe place—including audiometer, Goodlite vision machine, and scales. Prepare bio‑hazard waste for pickup.
Maintain AED, perform monthly checks, assure it is in good working order, track CPR/FA certification status, and update as needed.
Ensure all supplies are in date and order needed supplies timely.
Participate in and administer required ACIP vaccines at annual school vaccine clinics with the registered nurse supervisor.
Provide clinic coverage at South Sumter High School, South Sumter Middle School, and Wildwood Middle High School when the primary nurse is unavailable.
Review immunization records in FLrowth and medical files in Skyward for compliance and OPTIONnotify parents/guardians ngo delinquent immunizations or documentation.
Provide annual medication administration training to unlicensed school staff and assist the primary nurse in providing annual medication training at South Sumter Middle School and Wildwood Middle High School.

Knowledge of basic medical terminology and techniques.
Ability to communicate with others in a respectful, effective manner.
Ability to interview students and parents to obtain pertinent medical history.

Ability to maintain inventory and order necessary supplies for the school clinic.
Knowledge of basic computer software.
Ability to apply basic first aid as necessary.
Ability to enter clinic visits into the electronic Skyward database in a timely manner.
Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Skill in using medical equipment and instruments used in providing nursing care.
Ability to administer medications.
Ability to work with students and staff.
Ability to interpret and follow medical instructions.
Ability to observe student symptoms and reactions to treatment.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Qualifications Minimum:
Must have a Florida LPN license or a multi‑state LPN license from another compact state in accordance with Florida Statute 464.0095.
CPR Certification.
