Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 12‑16 hours per week) Student Facilities/Maintenance (Research Forests Recreation Assistant) position at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position is located at Peavy Arboretum, about 9 miles north of campus. The OSU Research Forests Recreation Assistant supports the recreation program on the Research Forests by completing field work and office tasks essential to program operations.

We are looking for one student to work approximately 12‑16 hours per week during the school year, and between 20‑40 hours a week during winter break and the summer.

Position Duties Assist the OSU Research Forests Recreation Field Coordinator with various field tasks including Arboretum landscaping, trail maintenance, shop clean‑up, equipment maintenance, and other tasks as needed.

Drive OSU Research Forests vehicles throughout the McDonald and Dunn Forests to reach work sites, trails, and recreation facilities, and to run errands in town as needed.

Assist with volunteer efforts and work parties. May also assist with interpretive, communication, GIS, or planning projects as needed or desired.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.

Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.

Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard:

High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program

Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term

Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term

Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term

Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full‑time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

The ability to work in a forested environment, and traverse uneven terrain in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, wind, and cold), is required.

The ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds is required.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications Prior experience in recreation management or forestry related jobs.

Pursuing studies in recreation management, or closely related field.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule This position works out of the Research Forest office in Peavy Arboretum. Incumbent is required to provide their own transportation to and from Peavy Arboretum. Incumbent may need to work on weekends.
