Position Overview
Torque by Ryder is immediately hiring a permanent full‑time experienced mobile diesel technician to support our truck fleet in Pennsauken, NJ. The role includes routine preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of diesel engines and related systems.
Responsibilities
Interact with customers and exhibit account‑management skills to facilitate preventive maintenance, repair issue resolution, and new repair estimates.
Coordinate work schedule as required by customers.
Road‑test vehicles to identify causes of complaints, ensure quality of repair work, and deliver customer satisfaction.
Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and vehicle repairs, including:
A/C & Heater systems – inspection, leak detection, and basic repairs.
Brakes‑Air – inspection, air leak detection, lining measurements, and brake repairs.
Brakes‑Hydraulic – road testing, leak inspection, and brake repairs.
Cargo Handling/Transfer & Liftgates – leak identification and basic adjustments.
Charging Systems – battery inspection, alternator checks, belt maintenance.
Clutch – lubrication, operation, and basic adjustments.
Cooling Systems – coolant checks, leak inspection, hose replacements.
Cranking System – battery and starter inspections.
Lighting System – wiring, bulb replacements, accessories.
Drive Axles – oil changes, filter changes, breather cleaning.
Driveline – lubrication and inspection.
Gas & Diesel Engines – oil level checks, noise and leak identification.
Fuel Systems – filter replacement, line integrity checks.
Steering and Non‑Driven Axles – grease, fluid checks, alignment.
Suspension‑Chassis and Cab – basic repair and leak checks.
Tire and Wheel Maintenance – pressure checks, tread depth, rotation.
Vehicle Coupling System – lubrication and slider operation.
Utilize shop management system and electronic documentation for all work.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Maintain proper maintenance, safety, and environmental records.
Accountable for key maintenance measurements related to PMs, brakes, tires, and wheels.
Act as a mentor for SM II level technicians.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree, or technical certifications preferred.
Basic tools required.
Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
Routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work).
Diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems).
Advanced repairs including major engine work, diesel after‑treatment, or automotive fuel injection.
Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
Non‑Commercial Driver License (CLASS E) preferred.
Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL CLASS A) preferred.
Two (2) years or more experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment.
Able to operate and secure a mobile service truck.
Must be able to drive Ryder vehicles.
Ability to:
Understand and adhere to company policies.
Complete repair orders with established systems.
Create and maintain professional relationships.
Work independently and as part of a team.
Prioritize workload.
Substantiate mechanic, customer‑service, and account‑management skills.
Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication.
Show flexibility and self‑drive in a fast‑paced environment.
Manage multiple tasks, maintain organization, and allocate time efficiently.
Be detail oriented with excellent follow‑up practices.
Display entrepreneurial spirit.
Complete required training by 90–180 days for PM230, PM298, BA220, BA298, BH220, BH298, TW220, AC220, AC298, DR208, SBTIII, SBT Phase 2, and OEM diagnostic tool courses.
Screening requirements:
Pass a Ryder drug test.
Pass a DOT physical.
Pass a Ryder road test.
Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years.
