Skilled Trades Worker-FMO, Tifton
This position will haul equipment and/or materials to other UGA properties across the State and will also perform skilled trades work on the buildings and facilities located on the Tifton Campus. Duties include masonry and carpentry work such as pouring concrete, building tables, shelves, etc.; repairing broken water lines; HVAC repairs and maintenance; electrical repairs; and other tasks involving the use of heavy equipment.
Responsibilities
Hauling Equipment and Materials:
Transport equipment and materials locally and statewide; secure equipment on trailers using tie‑downs; drive a semi and other trucks to haul equipment.
Building & Facilities Maintenance:
Mix and pour concrete pads; perform masonry work; carpentry projects such as shelves and tables for research equipment; repair broken water lines, roofs, plumbing leaks; conduct HVAC maintenance and repairs; perform electrical repairs; assist other tradesmen; operate small tools such as planers and saws; operate large equipment such as backhoes and lifts.
Special Projects:
Assist with setup and takedown of equipment at special events such as the Sunbelt Expo and campus events.
Miscellaneous:
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Georgia Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Georgia Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Knowledge and skill in hauling and securing equipment.
Effective time management.
Communication and teamwork.
Ability to devise and execute facility or landscape tasks while complying with campus personnel and University regulations.
Skill in operating heavy machinery such as backhoes, skytrackers, forklifts, etc.
Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Physical Demands
Crawling into confined spaces.
Climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
Standing for extended periods.
Lifting variable weights depending on task.
Driving to perform duties.
Work Schedule Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
