Job Title
Highway Maintenance Specialist – Oregon Department of Transportation, Delivery & Operations Division – Region 4 – Arlington.
Base Pay Range From $4,207 to $5,842 per month. Initial posting date 01/09/2026; application deadline 01/26/2026.
Role Overview As part of the Arlington maintenance crew, you will operate equipment to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges and structures, including emergency cleanup and traffic control after storms, spills, incidents and more.
A Day In The Life
Operate heavy and light equipment to maintain and repair road surfaces.
Assist with weather‑related emergencies, operating snowplows, deicer trucks and other equipment.
Perform minor surface repairs, including pothole and concrete patching.
Clear debris, brush, mow grass and spray roadside vegetation.
Maintain and repair fences, guardrails, concrete barriers and milepost markers.
Maintain drainage, dig/clean ditches, repair culverts, inlets, and erosion controls.
Maintain wooded areas (replanting, pruning, thinning).
Service and repair tools and motorized equipment.
Perform maintenance (janitorial, landscaping, painting, light carpentry).
Exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous waste materials.
Must be able to move around rough terrain, bend, stoop, and lift up to 60 pounds.
May need to work after hours, weekends, holidays for emergency/on‑call/ weather‑related duties.

Minimum Qualifications
One year experience performing basic highway maintenance.
OR two years experience in general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction.
Special Qualifications CDL‑B or CDL‑A Required:
Must possess a current valid commercial driver’s license B with no air‑brake restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions. Must obtain a class A commercial learner’s permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL‑A with a tanker endorsement within six months of hire (training covered).
Valid driver license and acceptable driving record required. Pre‑employment driving record checks, FMCSA Clearinghouse registration and annual checks for current employees.
Federal policy change may affect eligibility for certain candidates.
This position requires a maximum 45‑minute response time to 1520 Highway 19, Arlington, OR 97812 for emergencyusionsoft.
What We’d Like To See
Experience in road maintenance, construction or a maintenance training program.
Preferred: Valid CDL‑A.
Experience operating hand tools and light & heavy equipment.
Experience working on a team.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Adobe).
