The Position We are seeking a

full‑time Billing Specialist . This position reports directly to the Billing and Compliance Manager and Billing Specialist Lead. The role is primarily responsible for the accuracy of client information, MC eligibility, and funding entered on the EHR and IBHIS system, billing third‑party payers, and creating a report of ineligible clients.

What You’ll Do

Review and reconcile client information for new cases entered in the EHR and IBHIS system.

Check new client MC eligibility.

Download MC eligibility from Covivitas into the EHR on the 1st and 15th of each month.

Verify clients appearing as MC ineligible and correct claims due to ineligibility as required.

Create a monthly list of DMH clients that become ineligible for Medi‑Cal funding and submit the report to the Community Outreach Manager and Administrative Manager.

Daily review of EHR error report, Activities Needing Attention, and address errors to enable billing to be processed for payment.

Review and submit claims for clients with OHC to third‑party payers using EHRS EXYM and Availity on a weekly basis.

Verify insurance coverage for clients with OHC and send invoices.

Send out and follow up on CMS1500 forms as needed.

Hours: Monday–Friday 8:00 am–5:00 pm, 1‑hour meal period.

Starting Salary: $18.00–$20.00 per hour based on experience.

Qualifications

Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, such as Excel, Word, and Access.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑based setting.

Detail‑oriented, analytical, demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, resourceful, reliable, able to adhere to deadlines, self‑starter, and able to work independently.

Must have a good sense of judgment as pertaining to the position.

Must have relevant medical billing experience, preferably in mental health.

Experience with EHRS, EXYM, and Department of Mental Health (DMH) billing procedures highly preferred.

Bachelor’s or Associate's Degree in a relevant field preferred; High School Diploma or GED required.
