Maintenance Technician – Facilities Management Unit, South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (Academy).
The Academy is seeking a Maintenance Technician to supervise and assist inmate personnel in maintenance, groundskeeping, and custodial functions.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and assist inmate staff in general maintenance and custodial duties. Conduct weekly safety meetings and training for assigned inmate staff. Perform accurate inmate staff counts throughout the day. Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs for existing and newly acquired equipment. Operate a van to transport inmate staff as needed; maintain accurate vehicle logs. Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure assigned vehicles are safe and operable. Ensure compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations. Perform occasional weekend duties as operational needs require. Minimum Requirements
High school diploma. One year of job-related experience. Qualifications
Ability to plan and supervise the work of the inmate personnel. Considerable knowledge in the use of various trades and craft tools and equipment. Must be able to handle and respond to emergency situations. Must possess the knowledge and skills to perform protection and security practices. Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Must be able to lift and carry at least widgets 50 lbs for prolonged distances (at least 50 feet). Must be able to walk (300 yards) and stand for long periods of time (2 1/2 hours) and climb steps, stairs, and inclined ADA ramps. Must be able to endure adverse weather conditions. Must be available for occasional weekend work. About The Academy
