General Description Riverton City is seeking a full‑time Parks Maintenance Worker to maintain and operate developed parks and open spaces within the Parks Division. Responsibilities include irrigation, landscaping, turf management, and park safety inspections.

Examples of Duties

Inspect, adjust, and repair sprinkler systems, including cleanouts at season end.

Maintain open spaces: mowing, weed control, fence repair, pavilions, restrooms, trash removal.

Perform park safety inspections and make light repairs.

Operate heavy and light equipment such as backhoes, front‑end loaders, mowers, tractors, hand tools.

Assist with landscape construction, soil preparation, planting trees, shrubs, sod, and lawn seed.

Prepare sports fields for play.

Assist in maintenance of the City Cemetery (opening, closing burials).

Perform equipment maintenance: change fluids, sharpen blades, clean filters.

Assist with special event set‑up and takedown, snow removal.

Maintain park security, respond to after‑hour calls.

Assist high‑level staff with records, reports, contractor monitoring.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications – Level I

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Valid Utah driver’s license with a clean record.

Minimum age 18.

1+ years experience in public works/parks (preferred).

1+ years experience in irrigation and landscaping (preferred).

1+ years experience operating light to heavy equipment (preferred).

Utah Pesticide Applicator License (ornamental and turf) or willing to obtain within 6 months.

Minimum Qualifications – Level II

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Valid Utah commercial driver’s license preferred.

Minimum age 18.

Utah Pesticide Applicator License (ornamental and turf).

3+ years experience operating light to heavy equipment (required).

3+ years experience in public works/parks (required).

3+ years experience in irrigation and landscaping (required).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Follow oral and written instructions.

Strong decision‑making and teamwork.

Manual labor ability.

Willingness to work outdoors in various conditions.

Excellent multi‑tasking and customer orientation.

Special Requirements Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen, background check, provide current Utah driving record, complete Human Performance Evaluation (lift 50 lb), and verify employment with Form I‑9. Position has a six‑month probation period.
