Claims Specialist
Job Description Reporting to the Claims Management team, the Claims Specialist is responsible for investigating and administering a range of claims that support employee well‑being and protect company assets. This role manages claims related to illness, minor injuries, auto incidents, and property damage, while also stepping in to support administrative functions as needed to ensure timely and accurate claims processing.
What You Will Be Doing
Administering all paperwork, authorizations, and return‑to‑work processes related to personal illness and minor injury claims.
Consulting with associates and medical providers to obtain and review relevant medical documentation.
Collaborating with vessel associates, operations managers, facilities staff, insurance carriers, and medical providers to ensure proper claims processing.
Establishing and monitoring claim reserves, tracking expenditures, and approving claim‑related expenses as appropriate.
Managing unknown property damage claims, auto physical damage, and select aspects of Longshore claims across the organization.
Coordinating with Maintenance & Repair (M&R) on invoices and claim number updates.
Maintaining accurate records in the claims management system and processing invoices in accordance with company procedures.
If complicated medical issues arise, notifying the supervisor of the need to transfer file to claims adjuster.
Adhering to HIPAA regulations, policies and procedures.
Providing additional administrative and operational support to the department as assigned, while maintaining regular and reliable attendance.
