Job Description Reporting to the Claims Management team, the Claims Specialist is responsible for investigating and administering a range of claims that support employee well-being and protect company assets. This role manages claims related to illness, minor injuries, auto incidents, and property damage, while also stepping in to support administrative functions as needed to ensure timely and accurate claims processing.
What You Will Be Doing:
Administering all paperwork, authorizations, and return-to-work processes related to personal illness and minor injury claims.
Consulting with associates and medical providers to obtain and review relevant medical documentation.
Collaboratingwith vessel associates, operations managers, facilities staff, insurance carriers, and medical providers to ensure proper claims processing.
Establishing and monitoring claim reserves, track expenditures, and approve claim-related expenses as appropriate.
Managingunknown property damage claims, auto physical damage, and select aspects of Longshore claims across the organization.
Coordinatingwith Maintenance & Repair (M&R) on invoices and claim number updates.
Maintaining accurate records in the claims management system and process invoices in accordance with company procedures.
If complicated medical issues arise, notify the supervisor of the need to transfer file to claims adjuster.
Adheringto HIPPA regulations, policies and procedures.
Providingadditional administrative and operational support to the department as assigned, while maintaining regular and reliable attendance.
Qualifications
Knowledge of marine transportation industry is beneficial.
Claims experience preferred
High School Diploma or GED required
2-3 years of experience required
Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Demonstrated capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong analytical, written skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Myst be able to travel at short notice
Required to be present in office three days a week, with two remote days to be decided by the manager
