The Work You Will Do Highway Maintenance Technician II / District Four / Director of Operations / District Maintenance / Ft. Lauderdale Maintenance – Roadway Repair.
This position you will operate various vehicles and heavy equipment for bridge and roadway maintenance, performs minor equipment maintenance, and assists with repairs and cleaning. Leads and coordinates the work of a maintenance crew, including planning tasks, selecting materials, maintaining records, and preparing reports. Also performs manual labor, temporary traffic control, basic carpentry, masonry, painting, and helps install highway signs. Trains crew members in equipment operation and traffic control procedures.

Your Specific Responsibilities Upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license, operates a variety of vehicles and mechanized equipment to include backhoe, tractors with attachments, crew cabs, and dump truck. Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment that they are operating. Cleans and washes equipment.
Uses a variety of novas hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal Polsce supervision.
Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs. Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).

The costs of the initial CDL training and initial testing will be paid by the Department, subject to available funding. An employee will be given three chances to pass the license requirements.
