County of Riverside
Join the County of Riverside Transportation & Land Management Agency (TLMA) as a Truck Mechanic. This full‑time position (4/10 schedule) is located in Riverside and focuses on the repair and maintenance of medium and heavy‑duty gasoline and diesel trucks and trailers.
Responsibilities
Inspect and diagnose mechanical failures and defects in a variety of heavy trucks.
Rebuild or repair engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, axles, steering gears, carburetors, cooling systems and other mechanical and electrical assemblies.
Perform tune‑ups on carburetion, fuel injection, and ignition systems.
Replace and adjust air, hydraulic and vacuum brakes, starters, and generators.
Repair smaller automotive equipment when required; rough weld; maintain time and material records.
Maintain vehicle records in accordance with DOT standards.
Use preventative maintenance software such as Asset Works or equivalent.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a recognized heavy‑duty truck mechanic apprenticeship program, or four years of experience in repair and overhaul of heavy diesel and gasoline powered vehicles. Trade courses may be substituted.
Valid California Class B Driver’s License with tanker endorsement.
Experience with hydraulic, air brake, clutch, axle, steering gear, suspension, carburetor, fuel injection, cooling, air conditioning and electrical systems.
Mechanical experience with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, CAT‑ET, CUMMINS In‑Site, Bendix software, or equivalent.
Basic Inspection of Terminals (BIT) program knowledge and/or welding/fabrication skills are desirable.
Other Requirements
Ability to supply own basic tools.
Knowledge of diagnostics equipment and shop manuals.
Ability to follow written and oral directions and work safely.
Willingness to complete DOT safety‑sensitive drug/alcohol screening and background checks.
