Validation Engineer – Charging
for a client in the automotive industry, specializing in car manufacturing. This is a
long-term Contractor
role based in
Novi, MI

Purpose The Validation Engineer – Charging is responsible for validating all vehicle-level charging functions and use cases. This includes AC and DC charging performance, customer-facing features, infrastructure compatibility, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures full traceability from charging requirements to test execution, documentation, and final sign-off while supporting localized validation activities and test campaigns.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage detailed test cases for charging-related functions and attributes, including:
Plug & Charge and payment systems
Fast charging preconditioning
Bidirectional charging (V2L AC, V2Hen DC)
Battery Charge Care Mode (BCCM)
Charging history andplorer statistics
Charging Point of Interest (POI) validation
Translate charging requirements into executable vehicle-level test procedures and validation plans.
Benchmark AC and DC fast charging performance, including:
Range added per time unit
Peak power delivery
Charging curve accuracy
Lead and coordinate validation trips at proving grounds and public charging stations under representative and extreme conditions.
Execute tests and manage data collection, including preconditioning, route planning, instrumentation, and environmental controls.
Ensure traceability between requirements and test cases using tools such as Codebeamer, Jama, or Jira.
Analyze test results related to:
Charging time and responsiveness
Connector and infrastructure compatibility
Fault handling and communication robustness
Charging curve accuracy and peak power behavior
Collaborate closely with charging systems, software, controls, and vehicle integration teams to resolve validation issues.
Document validation outcomes and support release and sign-off decisions with structured reports and tracking.
Support test planning, logistics, equipment readiness, and coordination with external charging and test facilities.
Promote systems engineering practices and structured validation processes.
Partner with concept and systems architect teams to address engineering and functional challenges.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
4+ years of experience in vehicle validation, preferably focused on EV charging systems.
Required Skills
Experience writing test requirements and managing change requests.
Working knowledge of requirements and validation tools (Jama, Polarion, DOORS, MagicDraw, Codebeamer).
Familiarity with U.S. regulations and safety requirements related to EV charging infrastructure.
Strong understanding of automotive-grade standards and vehicle development processes.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Physical Requirements
Work is normally performed in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop setting where physical work includes, but is not limited to sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
Must be able to understand and comply with all relevant safety practices.
