Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Assistant Laboratory Technician to join our healthcare team. This position combines clinical laboratory skills with medical assistant duties to support patient care and laboratory operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical abilities, excellent attention to detail, and superior patient care skills.
Required Qualifications - High school diploma or equivalent required - Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program - Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or NCMA) - Valid North Carolina state
licensure/certification
as required - Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred - Current CPR/BLS certification
Essential Functions & Responsibilities Laboratory Duties - Collect, specimens according to established protocols - Perform phlebotomy procedures and handle specimens appropriately - Conduct routine laboratory tests and procedures - Maintain accurate documentation of test results in laboratory information systems - Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment - Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace - Comply with all CLIA regulations and quality control procedures -Conduct breath alcohol testing, fingerprinting, and I9 services
Medical Assistant Duties - Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and procedures - Record vital signs and patient medical histories - Prepare patients for laboratory procedures - Explain laboratory procedures to patients - Schedule laboratory appointments and maintain efficient workflow - Process laboratory requisitions and verify insurance information - Handle specimen storage and transport according to proper protocols
Administrative Responsibilities - Maintain accurate and detailed patient records - Enter test results into electronic health records (EHR) systems - Coordinate with other departments regarding patient care - Assist with inventory management of laboratory supplies - Participate in quality improvement initiatives - Attend required training and continuing education programs
Requirements: Required Skills & Competencies - Strong knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures - Excellent attention to detail and accuracy - Proficiency in EHR systems and laboratory information systems - Strong organizational and time management skills - Excellent verbal and written communication abilities - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Professional demeanor and strong patient service orientation - Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy requirements Physical Requirements - Ability to stand and walk for extended periods - Capable of lifting/moving up to 25 pounds - Manual dexterity for laboratory procedures - Visual acuity necessary for specimen processing and microscopic work - Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required Work Environment - Clinical laboratory setting - Possible exposure to infectious materials and chemicals - May require weekend or evening hours based on laboratory needs - Fast-paced environment requiring multitasking abilities
