We are seeking a

Junior Mission Engineer

to support the U.S. Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), part of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). NSWCDD serves as the Navy’s leading architect for complex naval warfare systems, delivering advanced weapon systems through research, development, testing, systems engineering, and integration in support of the Navy, Joint Forces, and the Nation. The organization focuses on innovation in areas such as directed energy, digital engineering, and advanced combat systems to deliver effective, affordable solutions for the future fleet.

Position Description This role supports a Combat Systems Engineering‑focused contract and is part of a 17‑person Mission Engineering team within a larger group of approximately 100 contractors.

Work Location and Telework The primary work location is Dahlgren, Virginia. Candidates may be required to work on‑site, or near the base, up to five (5) days per week, based on customer requirements. Limited telework or work from a contractor location may be available with government approval.

Responsibilities and Duties The Junior Mission Engineer will support Combat Systems and Mission Engineering activities in accordance with the Defense Acquisition Guide, providing systems engineering support across the full lifecycle of naval warfare systems. Responsibilities include supporting the NSWCDD V Department with advanced ship and combat system integration engineering across a wide range of platforms and programs, including:

AEGIS modernization and in‑service combat systems engineering

DDG‑1000 mission systems engineering

Ship Self‑Defense System (SSDS) engineering

Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV), and Frigate combat systems

Operations and force analysis

AEGIS Combat Direction System support

AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense systems engineering

LBTTS planning and activation

System analysis and enterprise systems engineering support

Modeling and simulation

Combat system virtualization for the United States Marine Corps

Foreign Military Sales (FMS)

Future surface Navy combat systems

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, or a technical discipline, or four (4) years of equivalent technical experience

Four (4) years of professional experience with emphasis in one or more of the following areas:

Combat Systems Cybersecurity

Ship Self‑Defense System (SSDS)

Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) platforms

AEGIS Integrated Combat Systems

DDG‑1000 (Zumwalt‑class) destroyers

AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense

Weapon and sensor combat systems

Preferred Qualifications/Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Active DoD Secret clearance

Prior experience supporting NSWC Dahlgren or NSWC Crane

Travel Requirements

Travel is not expected but could include occasional trips to Navy fleet‑centric on‑site locations
