Job Summary
Savannah State University is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented
Shipping and Receiving Clerk
to support daily logistics and inventory operations. This position is responsible for receiving, inspecting, documenting, storing, and distributing incoming and outgoing shipments in accordance with university policies and procedures. The.hibernate ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to accuracy and customer service.
Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM $18.50/hr
Key Responsibilities
Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments for accuracy, damage, and completeness
Log and track all incoming and outgoing packages using inventory or tracking systems
Prepare outgoing shipments, including packaging, labeling, and documentation
Distribute packages and materials to appropriate university departments in a timely manner
Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with periodic inventory counts
Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and forklifts (if certified)
Ensure compliance with university safety standards and shipping/receiving procedures
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Communicate effectively with vendors, carriers, and university staff regarding shipments
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Previous experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, or inventory control preferred
Basic computer skills and experience using inventory or tracking systems
Ability to lift, move, and carry packages (up to 50 lbs)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a higher education or institutional setting
Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification
Knowledge of shipping carriers and logistics procedures
