WIC Director
Galveston County Health District is seeking an experienced and dedicated WIC Director to lead and oversee all components of the GCHD WIC Program. In this role, you will manage program operations, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, supervise staff, and promote high-quality nutrition services for eligible participants across Galveston County.

What You’ll Do:
Oversee daily operations of the WIC Program and ensure program compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Serve as Competent Authority (CA) for clinic coverage during staff absences or vacancies
Provide technical support to staff CAs regarding special formula approvals
Plan, conduct, and document staff training, in-service meetings, and continuing education programs
Write and revise local policies to meet DSHS WIC requirements
Prepare and submit monthly performance and program reports to HHS
Evaluate and train WIC vendors and manage vendor compliance
Prepare and manage program budget
Analyze WIC participation data and assess program effectiveness, efficiency, and site utilization
Work with the Chief Nursing Officer to identify barriers and implement improvement plansEnsure adherence to infection control and safety policies, including proper disposal of biohazard waste
Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate staff in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws
Approve travel requests, timesheets, leave requests, and other personnel forms
Coordinate staff schedules, assign work, and address complaints or performance issues
Maintain necessary documentation of staff training and program operations
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
What We’re Looking For:
Minimum 1 year of experience in WIC or another public health entity
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in human nutrition, dietetics, community nutrition, public health nutrition, clinical nutrition, or home economics with 24 semester hours in food and nutrition – OR – Home economics major or other degreed professionals with 12+ nutrition hours and 6 science hours (with State Agency approval) – OR – Registered Dietician, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Licensed Dietician, Dietetic Technician Registered, Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Physician, or Physician’s Assistant
Preferred: Master’s degree in Nutrition, Health Care Administration, or Public Health
Excellent presentation and training skills, understanding of adult learning principles
Knowledge of healthcare operations, regulatory compliance, and current healthcare trends
Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent computer skills (MS Office)
Customer service oriented and able to serve individuals from diverse backgrounds
Ability to provide spur-of-the-moment transportation without reliance on organization vehicles
Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one; DMV check may be required
Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed
Must comply with GCHD Immunization Policy and IC training requirements
Must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening
Equivalent education and experience may be considered
