Job Description
The Phlebotomist II will be responsible for collecting, processing, and handling patient specimens in accordance with established procedures while ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and specimen processing.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients.
Use straight and butterfly needles for specimen collection.
Verify and follow physician orders accurately.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Verify test requisitions and computer labels for accuracy.
Package and store specimens for transport under required conditions.
Follow specific transport and handling protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend required annual department trainings.
Answer phone calls and communicate laboratory results as required.
Requirements/Must Have
Valid phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment.
High school diploma or GED.
Experience
Minimum of 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Experience working with Microsoft Office applications.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
