Benefits Manager (Part-Time)
Our client is seeking a detail‑driven, highly knowledgeable Benefits Manager to oversee and administer a comprehensive employee benefits and leave program in a dynamic, mission‑driven organization. This part‑time role plays a critical advisory and operational function, ensuring employees receive accurate, timely, and compliant support across medical leaves, accommodations, and benefit programs. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in leave management, strong regulatory knowledge, and a collaborative, service‑oriented approach.
This role is a hybrid model in Portland or Salem, Oregon working 25‑30 hours a week.
Benefits Manager Responsibilities
Lead and manage all medical leave and accommodation processes, including disability, protected leaves, and workplace adjustments, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements.
Serve as the primary subject matter expert for FMLA, OFLA, ADA, PLO, workers’ compensation, and related leave and benefit programs.
Administer core and voluntary benefit programs, including health, dental, retirement, life, and disability, while ensuring accurate enrollment, eligibility, and vendor coordination.
Provide hands‑on support for claims resolution, employee inquiries, and benefit‑related problem solving in a confidential and compliant manner.
Coordinate and deliver benefit communications, open enrollment, and employee education sessions, including onboarding presentations and annual enrollment activities.
Oversee regulatory compliance, reporting, and required employee notices, including ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and annual plan documentation.
Partner with HR leadership and vendors to support retirement plans, audits, reporting, and ongoing plan governance.
Maintain accurate records, reconcile invoices, and monitor benefit and leave data to ensure consistency and accuracy across programs.
Benefits Manager Qualifications
Strong background managing medical leaves, disability cases, and employee accommodations in a complex organizational environment.
Three to five years of hands‑on experience administering benefits and leave programs, preferably in higher education or a similarly regulated setting.
In‑depth knowledge of federal and state employment and benefits regulations, including FMLA, ADA, OFLA, PLO, COBRA, HIPAA, and related compliance standards.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in benefits, human resources, or a related field.
Proven ability to manage multiple programs, vendors, and deadlines with strong organizational and project management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex benefit and leave topics clearly and empathetically.
Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
Proficiency with Microsoft and/or Google productivity tools.
Experience with Workday or similar HRIS platforms is preferred.
Compensation $35–$43/hr. (DOE)
