Salary: $7,091 - $10,027 monthly (anticipated starting salary $7,091)

Position Overview The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Site Superintendent II to manage operations at the Hamilton County State Fish & Wildlife Area (Dolan Lake). The role involves operating heavy equipment, supervising staff, maintaining financial and operational records, and representing the department at meetings and events.
Essential Functions
Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as trucks and trailers exceeding 26,001 pounds with air brakes; transport equipment throughout the region.
Direct and participate in the preparation and maintenance of site operations and financial records and reports.
Supervise and maintain site grounds, facilities, and equipment.
Plan, coordinate, and implement site audit activities and programs that complement the natural resource base.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with the media, interested groups, and individuals.
Explain agency policies, rules, and regulations to visitors and ensure compliance.
Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation administration, natural resource area administration, museum administration, history, American studies, or archaeology.
Three years of supervisory experience in managing outdoor recreational parks or natural public areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Three years of professional work experience in site administration, conservation, structural grounds maintenance, public relations, and personnel administration.
Two years of experience in assigning and supervising assistants and staff.
Two years of experience applying knowledge to problem‑solving situations encountered in the performance of duties.
Two years of experience evaluating program effectiveness and making recommendations on policies and procedures.
Two years of experience expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Conditions of Employment
Completion of a background check and self‑disclosure of criminal history.
Valid Class A Commercial driver’s license with air brakes designation.
Ability to travel, including overnight stays, as required.
Ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials for maintenance and repair of site resources.
Ability to work under adverse environmental conditions year‑round.
Ability to lift and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds and to navigate rough terrain.
Ability to obtain a pesticide applicator’s license within six months of hire.
Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
