Technicians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing protection and control systems used to monitor protection systems in power substations. They must have a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and computer skills, applying this knowledge to work with microprocessor relays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, pumps, motors, and more.
Duties & Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot protection and control relaying and associated devices.
Perform calibration of various types of protection and control relays and devices.
Assist in creating and maintaining protection and control documentation.
Assist assigned project lead with field assignments.
Install, program, and maintain protection and control relays and devices.
Participate in process hazard analyses.
Maintain knowledge of current industry trends and practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
0-3 years of experience in a controls technician or similar role.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
Experience with AC and DC systems.
0 - 3 years of related experience.
