The West Genesee Central School District is seeking a skilled and proactive

Local Area Network (LAN) Technician

to join our Technology Department. This is a New York State Civil Service position responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our district-wide computing environment.

The ideal candidate will be a technical problem-solver who enjoys working in a fast-paced educational setting and ensuring that our students and staff have reliable access to the digital tools they need for success.

Salary: $49,000 - $53,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure Support:

Install, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN hardware and software, including servers, switches, routers, and wireless access points.

Technical Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and connectivity issues for desktop computers, laptops, and peripheral devices.

Security & Maintenance:

Monitor network performance and security; perform regular backups and system updates to ensure data integrity.

User Assistance:

Provide high-level technical support to faculty, staff, and students, translating technical concepts into easy-to-understand guidance.

Inventory & Documentation:

Maintain accurate records of hardware assets, software licenses, and network configurations.

Civil Service Status:

This is a competitive Onondaga County Civil Service position. Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for the title of

Local Area Network Technician .

Note: Appointment may be provisional pending the next civil service examination.

Education/Experience:

An Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field AND two years of full-time work experience in network administration or tech support;

OR

Four years of full-time work experience as described above;

OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency with Windows/Chrome OS environments, Google Workspace for Education, network protocols (TCP/IP), and virtualized server environments.
