The
Medical Assistant (MA)
provides direct patient support in a
mental health and substance abuse treatment facility
offering
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
services. This role is responsible for assisting medical and clinical staff in patient care, administrative duties, and ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient medical environment. Key Responsibilities: Patient Care & Medical Support:
Assist
nurses and medical providers
with patient assessments, medication administration, and vitals monitoring. Facilitate
medication reconciliation
and ensure accurate documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Support patients in understanding their treatment plans and medication instructions. Provide
basic first aid
and assist in crisis situations under supervision. Monitor and supervise patients in daily activities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. Assist in implementing individualized treatment plans by providing appropriate support and interventions. Observe and document patient behaviors, incidents, and progress accurately.
Clinical & Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date
medical records, patient charts, and lab reports . Assist in
drug screening procedures , including collection, processing, and documentation. Ensure proper
infection control procedures
and
medical supply inventory management . Coordinate
patient appointments , follow-ups, and referrals with external providers. Assist with the facilitation of group therapies, recreational activities, and educational sessions as directed by clinical staff. Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure continuity of care and effective communication. Maintain a clean and organized environment, including assisting with facility upkeep.
Compliance & Safety:
Adhere to
HIPAA, OSHA, and facility policies
regarding patient confidentiality and safety. Support the
Director of Nursing and Medical Director
in regulatory audits and quality improvement initiatives. Ensure all
medical equipment and exam areas
are clean, sanitized, and well-maintained. Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, utilizing de-escalation techniques when necessary. Participate in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications: Education & Certification:
High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an
accredited Medical Assistant program
required. Certification (CMA or RMA) preferred but not required . CPR and First Aid certification
required or must be obtained upon hire.
Experience:
At least
1-2 years of experience in a medical or behavioral health setting
preferred. Familiarity with
mental health and substance abuse treatment
is a plus.
Skills:
Proficiency in
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) . Strong
organizational and multitasking abilities . Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills
to support patients and medical teams.
Work Environment: Based in
Seymour, TN , primarily working with
IOP & PHP patients . May require occasional
travel between local treatment sites
for patient coordination. Physical Requirements:
Prolonged standing, lifting of
up to 25 lbs , and assisting patients in clinical settings.
