
Cost Accountant Company: Buyers Products Company Industry: Manufacturing / Work Truck Equipment About the Role Buyers Products Company, a leading manufacturer in the work truck industry, is seeking a Cost Accountant to join our team. This role partners closely with Operations and Finance leadership to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and operational reporting that supports strong financial performance. The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in analyzing product costs, identifying variances, and driving corrective actions and process improvements directly to the production floor. This position reports to the Corporate Controller and provides site-level financial guidance to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Key Responsibilities Analyze material, labor, and overhead cost variances by product line, work order, and cost center; identify root causes and recommend process improvements. Prepare and analyze Margin and COGS reports; explain variances related to material usage, purchase price, labor efficiency, and overhead absorption. Generate and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly operational and financial reports including production activity, labor utilization, WIP aging, overtime, inventory aging, and excess & obsolete inventory. Review and validate Bills of Material (BOMs) and routings to ensure accurate cost structures; collaborate with Engineering and Production on updates. Monitor inventory transactions to ensure accurate inventory valuation in the ERP subledger. Support month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger analysis. Assist with standard cost updates, cost roll analysis, and rate change implementation. Drive continuous improvement in cost reporting accuracy, including labor and material transactions on the shop floor. Participate in Gemba walks with Operations leadership to address production and costing opportunities. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure accurate and timely financial data reporting. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience Minimum of 5 years of accounting or finance experience, with progressive responsibility in manufacturing cost accounting and inventory management. Strong experience working with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment. Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; working knowledge of Outlook and Word. Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. MBA, CPA, or CMA preferred. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to move throughout office and manufacturing environments. Capable of sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive motions as required for computer-based work.
