Medical Technologist Specialist
to join our Cytogenetics team. This full-time role involves day shifts with some on-call duties. Purpose of this position:
Under general supervision, performs clinical laboratory testing of moderate to highly complex samples, utilizing automated equipment and specialized processes to analyze blood and bodily fluids, and accurately interpret results, including identifying abnormal findings. Responsibilities: Follow all laboratory procedures, including patient identification, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, documentation, and data entry into laboratory systems. Recognize, document, and communicate unusual or critical results based on training and protocols. Perform and monitor quality control, establish quality assurance, and participate in quality improvement initiatives to ensure test accuracy and validity. Calibrate, maintain, and perform performance checks on instrumentation, and assist in the development of maintenance schedules and procedures for new equipment. Troubleshoot instrumentation, reagents, and samples as needed, and evaluate methods for solutions. Assist in training new staff and interns, and support department operations including scheduling and technology evaluation. In specialized areas like Cytogenetics, additional duties include: Utilize karyotyping, FISH imaging, and fluorescent microscopes for cell analysis. Report results using ISCN standards. Maintain and harvest long-term cell cultures with aseptic techniques. Provide customer service through communication with clients regarding specimen transport, test results, and billing inquiries. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or Medical Laboratory Science. Completion of a NAACLS-approved CLS/MLS/MT training program. - OR - An approved equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications: One year of relevant experience. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Customer service skills. License/Certifications: For Cytogenetics Lab: Current certification as a Cytogenetics Technologist (CG ASCP), or Eligibility for certification with a plan to obtain certification within 24 months of hire.
