Plans, designs, analyzes and provides technical support for data communications network or group of networks. Uses extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external network solutions. Oversees and performs the installation, configuration and ongoing maintenance of networked information systems. Tests and evaluates network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements. Handles technical issues and major incidents through hands-on troubleshooting. Supports, maintains and monitors internal and external networks. Implements and manages network configurations and related security. Resolves network performance issues and establishes a disaster recovery plan. Installs upgrades and patches. Performs system backups and recovery. Monitors system configuration and maintains data files. Recommends upgrades, new applications, and equipment. Provides technical support and guidance to users. Relies on extensive knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals. Significant ingenuity and flexibility is expected. Should be familiar with scripting languages such as Ruby and Python. Performs a variety of tasks. Possesses strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills. Manages others. May offer consultation to senior leadership and is considered to be the top-level expert in this field. This position will have a strong focus on Operational Technology (OT) environments, including the design, implementation, and support of network infrastructure for OT devices and systems. Resolves user complaints, researches issues, answers technical questions and provides assistance with the application revision process. Develops detailed business user requirements, system documentation, workflow procedures and data modeling. Basic project management development and implementation. Provides business analysis in partnering with departments on appropriate technology. Provides mentoring for IT staff on specific systems or skills. Develops interfaces to applications. Develops financial proposals and models. Performs database maintenance. Provides quality control through testing, correcting errors and database tuning. Determines the appropriate business intelligence tools required by departments. Queries databases using standard querying tools. Troubleshoots and resolves system problems. Develops procedural and system documentation. Provides ideas and recommendations for better utilization of technology across the organization. Coordinates and/or performs testing of system modifications. Establishes deadlines and provides ongoing communication of progress to business customers, project team members and vendors to keep projects on track. Develops, provides or coordinates system training. Manages vendor and consultant relationships. Coordinates system maintenance, including software of OS upgrades and patches required. Maintains and makes recommendations concerning system security. Assists in system capacity planning. May maintain telephony infrastructure. Completion of work assignments will require operation of a vehicle. Other related duties may be assigned as needed. Requirements of Work
Considerable knowledge in the computer science field and business management. Foundational knowledge of modern information system security, deployment and maintenance. Knowledge and understanding of the role of the system at the enterprise level. Knowledge of user training methods. Ability to lead teams to complete projects on time and budget. Ability to translate technical knowledge into business processes. Ability to acquire and improve technical skills through self-study. Ability to independently research and develop technical expertise and knowledge. Ability to provide on-site service and support to remote locations. Ability to document system information, program information and specifications. Ability to use a computer to access, interpret and record information, for up to seven hours per day. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and outside agencies. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas Driver's License. An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace. Required Experience And Training
Three (3) years of experience in network engineering, including the design, installation, maintenance, and support of LAN/WAN systems. A valid drivers license. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Preferred Experience And Training
Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, Telecommunications. 5 years of experience in network engineering including the design, installation, maintenance, and support of LAN/WAN systems. 5 years in Cisco experience.
