Job Description

IT Director of Computer Support

Brigham Young University (BYU) seeks a strategic and service-oriented Director of Computer Support to lead endpoint management and computer support services. This role oversees the full lifecycle of access devices—including procurement, provisioning, support, and decommissioning.

The Director will manage distributed teams of Computer Support Representatives (CSRs), ensuring consistent service delivery across campus while aligning with campus unit needs. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining internal systems that ensure devices meet security and architectural standards, as well as external systems that support device acquisition and configuration for students, faculty, and staff.

What You Will Be Doing In This Position

Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute a comprehensive endpoint strategy aligned with university goals Promote innovation through automation, self-service, and modern digital experiences Foster collaboration and standardization across IT support units Use data-driven decision-making to create and adapt roadmaps and processes Lead change management efforts and maintain proactive stakeholder engagement

Technology Infrastructure & Operations

Oversee systems managing device lifecycle and support operations Ensure secure, compliant provisioning and maintenance of workstations Manage support centers and optimize customer service experiences Monitor performance metrics and publish service roadmaps Launch and oversee projects aligned with strategic goals

Team Leadership & Development

Lead and mentors full-time staff and student employees Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing team members Promote a culture of service, accountability, and continuous improvement Resolve escalated issues and align team skills with organizational needs Provide coaching, performance management, and career development

Cybersecurity & Compliance

Enforce IT standards for all endpoint devices Coordinate with security teams to align with compliance and risk strategies

Budget & Vendor Management

Manage budgets and resource allocation Oversee vendor relationships and procurement in coordination with stakeholders

What Qualifies You For This Role

A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities have been acquired. Requires a minimum of ten years extensive experience and in-depth understanding of desktop technologies, enterprise management systems, and IT infrastructure. Requires five years of in-line leadership and management of personnel.

Experience managing technical organizations, implementing quality initiatives within organizations, and leading change initiatives in challenging environments; experience in related managerial capacities including financial management and human resource responsibilities.

Strong understanding of cybersecurity, compliance (e.g., FERPA) and IT service management best practices.

Pay Grade: 56T

Typical Starting Pay: $115,500-$149,500
