Get AI-powered advice on this job and more exclusive features. Director, ESG – Greenwich, CT or Miami, FL (hybrid) Alternatives investment manager with $6B AUM is seeking a Director, ESG. This person will play an important role primarily in researching, monitoring and reporting on the environmental, social and governance (ESG) characteristics of potential and existing capital solutions investments (borrowers). Secondary responsibilities will include monitoring and reporting on firm-related ESG matters and other investment strategies. Researching and monitoring ESG characteristics will entail interacting with the investment team, the Head of ESG and as necessary, borrowers and their representatives. The Director, ESG will complete and update internal spreadsheets and reports to save information for the use of the team. Reporting will be for the use of LPs, industry organizations and if necessary, regulatory bodies. The underlying standards of borrower research and monitoring include the IFC Performance Standards, Principal Adverse Impact (PAI) factors as determined the European Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), EU Taxonomy factors as determined by the EU Taxonomy Regulation, the Task Force for Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative (NZAM). Specific responsibilities include: Pre-Investment Lead, with the support of the investment team, the ESG due diligence of prospective borrowers. Coordinate engagement of external consultants and execution of specific ESG due diligence and proposed remediation plans. Contribute to investment committee memos in order to detail the appropriate ESG due diligence findings and recommendations. Monitoring the investment pipeline to ensure pre-investment ESG checks are performed on a timely basis. Assist in the completion of the SFDR Checklist and emissions estimate calculations for Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Assist in the evaluation of investments to see if they meet the criteria for a Sustainable Investment, including, among others, Good Governance Assessments and Do No Significant Harm Tests Investment Reporting Assist in the gathering of borrower information and the completion of periodic reports for distribution to LPs. Monitor which investments are subject to an Environmental and Social Action Plan and related progress of the plan. Gather data and track compliance of borrowers with the relevant requirements under SFDR. Gather data and monitor the progress of borrowers with net zero plans as appropriate. Assist in the calculation of portfolio level emissions statistics / monitor portfolio. Monitor the portfolio decarbonization statistics and plan relative to company’s net zero goals to ensure the portfolio remains on track to achieve targets. Qualifications At least 5-7 years of experience; includes in-depth knowledge of and comfort with the IFC Performance Standards, SFDR and EU Taxonomy regulations, Net Zero and Climate Finance, private credit transactions and sustainability reporting. Fluent in Spanish preferred (not required). This role is onsite 4 days a week in either Greenwich or Miami. Seniority level
