To enforce parking ordinances and laws, investigate animal complaints, impound or quarantine animals, issue violation tags, and enforce city ordinances. Prepares required animal reports. Responds to public nuisance issues, and non-enforcement type support services for the public while assisting the police department's patrol division.

Assist department personnel in the handling of animal nuisance complaints, impounds or quarantines animals, and issues violation tags. Enforces other ordinances as appropriate. Answers questions from the public on phone or in person such as complaints or law interpretations, or refers to proper agency. Assists other departments with routine errands and delivery of agenda packets. Retrieve lost and stolen bicycles. Complete routine non-emergency reports. Assists with traffic control at emergencies or community events. Aids motorists by giving directions and unlocking cars. Assist in crime prevention education and public demonstrations and presentations. Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as directed by the shift or immediate supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or related field, or currently enrolled in a Minnesota law enforcement program at a 2 or 4 year school. Possession of a valid Class D Minnesota Drivers License without record of suspension or revocation in any state (within three years). No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories (within seven years). Must be a Citizen of the United States.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One year or more of public contact or customer service experience. Experience working in a Police Department. Experience working with animals.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to gain knowledge of parking ordinances and laws, general law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment required in performing daily duties. Ability to gain working knowledge of animal restraint and care techniques, related laws and ordinances. Ability to interact in a courteous, tactful but firm and businesslike manner with the general public. Ability to command the respect of fellow employees and the general public at all times. Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions. Ability to understand written and verbal communications in English, and ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, over the radio and on the telephone in English. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the supervision of the Patrol Duty Sergeant.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED None.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED Patrol vehicle, animal capture and immobilization equipment, police radio, personal computer and typewriter.
