You will serve as a SUPERVISORY RESEARCH PHYSICIST in the U.S. NAVAL OBSERVATORY, PRECISE TIME DEPARTMENT in WASHINGTON, D.C. You will supervise a staff of professional scientists, engineers and technicians potentially ranging from grades 11 through 13. This includes direct supervision of three research physicists, GS-1310-13, and one physical scientist GS-1301-13. You will plan and assign work, evaluate performance, give advice, counsel, and instruction, listen to and resolve conflicts and complaints, identify developmental and training needs, and identify and reward exceptional performance. You will act as a deciding official in selecting candidates for positions in the Division and may be designated Acting Deputy or Acting Head of the PT Department in the absence of a supervisor. You will be responsible for accomplishing the Division's primary mission which involve requirements analysis, strategic planning, preparing/tracking the Division's budget, performing risk assessment/reduction, and maintaining information assurance. You will make commitments concerning the programs under his/her management. Requirements

Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
