Join the TIMSS &PIRLS International Study Center (ISC) as the Senior Graphic Designer/GraphicDesigner and become part of a team of experts redefining the measurement ofmathematics, science, and reading achievement through TIMSS and PIRLS, whichtogether represent the worldwide standard for assessment in these coresubjects. Located at BostonCollege’s Lynch School of Education and Human Development, IEA’s TIMSS &PIRLS (ISC) conducts regular international comparative assessments of studentachievement in mathematics and science (TIMSS) and in reading (PIRLS) in morethan 60 countries. TIMSS (the Trends in International Mathematics and ScienceStudy) and PIRLS (the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study)together comprise the core cycle of studies for IEA – the InternationalAssociation for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement. Headquartered inAmsterdam and with a major data processing and research center in Hamburg, IEAhas been conducting international comparative studies of student achievementsince 1959. TIMSS and PIRLSenable participating countries to make evidence-based decisions for improvingeducational policy.
The TIMSS &PIRLS (ISC) is seeking a skilled GraphicDesigner/Illustrator with expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign,Illustrator, Photoshop) to create publications, infographics, and illustrations. Responsibilitiesinclude designing print and digital publications using AdobeInDesign, creating illustrations with Adobe Illustrator, and creating orediting images with Adobe Photoshop. The roleinvolves collaborating with teams, translating ideas into visuals, and ensuringcontent aligns with brand objectives. The designer will also prepare files forprint and the Web and ensure adherence to brand guidelines.
Reporting to theDirector of Graphic Design and Publications, the candidate will work directlywith researchers, assessment developers, reporting staff, and thefront-end web developer in the design department, as well as project partnerssuch as the International Association for the Evaluation of EducationalAchievement (IEA)and external vendors.
Requiredqualifications include proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, andPhotoshop, a strong portfolio, understanding of design principles and theory,strong visual storytelling skills, creativity, strong communication andcollaboration skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and meetdeadlines. Experience with print and digital media is also required. A degreein graphic design or a related field is preferred, but proven experience and astrong portfolio are also considered. Skills and responsibilities associated with thisrole: Adobe Suite Proficiency: InDesign: Expertise in layout design for publications: reports, brochures, and books. Illustrator: Skilled in creating vector graphics, icons, and illustrations that can be scaled without losing quality. Photoshop: Adept at image manipulation, retouching, color correction, and preparing images for both print and digital use. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Publication Creation: Includes designing layouts, incorporating text (managing footnotes, references, and links), infographics,and images — ensuring the final product is suitable for digital distribution or print.
Illustration:Strong drawing and design skills, a portfolio showcasing illustration work, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret researchers' and authors’ needs and revise work based on feedback are also crucial for this position.
