Avegant is seeking an Electrical Engineer to contribute to our cutting-edge near eye display technology. The position will be best filled by a highly-motivated person with at least 3 years of experience in a design and production environment or equivalent experience. This position will work under the guidance of senior engineers, contributing to the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components for Avegant’s light engines and the associated Augmented Reality systems where they are used. This position will work closely with our electrical engineering, firmware, mechanical engineering, optical and industrial design teams. Annual salary in the range of $125,000-160,000 based on experience, stock options, full medical, dental, vision benefits, 401k matching, unlimited PTO, office snacks, and team lunches. The role is an in-office role, at our dog-friendly office located in downtown San Mateo, CA, within walking distance of Caltrain. Responsibilities : Assist in the design and development of electrical schematics, layouts, and circuit boards. Conduct testing and debugging of electrical systems and prototypes. Support the integration of electrical components into larger systems. Perform calculations and simulations to verify design specifications. Contribute to the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including specifications, reports, and manuals. Participate in design reviews and provide technical feedback. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including optical engineers, mechanical engineers, firmware/software engineers, industrial designers, and the production team. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering. Qualifications : Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 5+ years of industry experience, or Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience. Strong understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles, including circuit theory, electromagnetism, and digital electronics. Proficiency in electrical design software for schematic design, layout, and gerber generation. Experience with Altium is a plus. Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies and soldering/rework stations. Basic understanding of microcontroller programming and embedded systems. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Preferred Skills : Familiarity with industry standard protocols including USB, I2C/I3C, I2S, SPI, UART, JTAG, MIPI DSI/CSI, LVDS, etc. Proficiency in basic firmware and programming languages including C/C++ and Python. Experience with battery powered consumer electronic devices. Experience with high-speed design and display systems. Experience with low-power LEDs or similar electro-optical devices. Experience with SPICE simulation tools.
