The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) is a key member of Per Scholas’ national leadership team, responsible for shaping and executing a comprehensive marketing, communications, and brand strategy that supports organizational growth, employer partnerships, learner engagement, and philanthropic investment. This leader will elevate Per Scholas’ national profile, grow brand visibility, and drive measurable results in support of our mission. The CMO will oversee a cross-functional team that manages digital marketing, content strategy, media relations, brand integrity, executive visibility, internal communications and national and local marketing campaigns. The CMO will be a strategic advisor to the CEO and a collaborative partner across Development, Admissions, Program, and Innovation teams. Key Responsibilities

Brand Leadership & Strategy Develop and steward a bold, cohesive brand strategy that reflects Per Scholas' mission and future vision. Boost brand recognition and messaging to support scaling efforts and deepen emotional connection with target audiences. Ensure brand consistency across all platforms, materials, and stakeholder experiences at the national and local market levels.

Design and implement national and local marketing strategies to drive learner recruitment, employer engagement, and donor investment. Oversee targeted, data-driven campaigns across digital (email, display, SEO, video), social, print, experiential channels and earned media/ PR. Use analytics to refine and optimize marketing efforts, ensuring high ROI and alignment with organizational goals.

Executive & Institutional Communications Serve as a key thought partner to the CEO and President on executive communications and institutional positioning. Oversee press strategy and proactive media relations to increase visibility and thought leadership. Lead crisis communications and support change management messaging as needed. Partner closely with our People and Inclusion & Culture teams on internal communication strategies to drive employee engagement and organizational culture.

Build, manage, and mentor a diverse, high-performing remote/hybrid team across brand, content, communications, digital marketing and marketing operations. Create a team culture of accountability, ensuring all team members have the tools, professional development and resources to produce high quality deliverables that support Per Scholas’ brand and organizational goals. Partner with Development, Program and Enterprise Talent Solutions teams to align messaging and campaigns with business goals. Serve as a visible organizational leader actively championing psychological safety, wellness, equity, and collaboration.

Qualifications

15+ years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or brand strategy, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Experience successfully building brands of mission-driven organizations, making significant improvements in visibility, revenue and culture. Deep understanding of corporate social responsibility, brand partnership, philanthropy and/or workforce development. Demonstrated success leading national brand campaigns and measurable marketing initiatives. Deep understanding of digital marketing, social media strategy, and audience segmentation. Exceptional storytelling, writing, and public speaking skills. Strong management experience, with a track record of building inclusive teams and mentoring talent. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and mission-driven environment.
