Navajo Preference Employment Act

Position Summary
This position is an established experienced role aimed at obtaining Surgical Technologist Certification. It requires rotational scheduling and on-call coverage (night, weekend, and holidays). The technician works under a surgeon's supervision to facilitate safe and effective invasive surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile environment, proper functioning of equipment, and maximum patient safety. Responsibilities include assisting with positioning, prepping, draping, setting up operating rooms, and ensuring equipment readiness across various surgical specialties for both adult and pediatric patients.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED, with completion of an approved Surgical Technician training program accredited by AST or equivalent on-the-job or military training. Certification/Licensure:
Certification within 6 months of employment from NBSTSA or NCCT-3yr 6240 hours, and current BLS certification from the American Heart Association. Experience:
At least nine months of current experience in relevant surgical specialties for both adult and pediatric patients. Skills and Abilities:
Positive employment references demonstrating teamwork, ethics, dependability, customer service, knowledge of sterile procedures, and ability to perform essential functions. Completion of background checks, fingerprint clearance, physical exams, and submission of all employment documents are required. Physical and Mental Effort Requires physical stamina for demanding, high-stress environments, including standing for long periods, lifting, bending, and handling hazardous materials. Mental demands include effective communication, prioritization, multitasking, and flexible scheduling. Environmental Conditions Exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, extreme temperatures, loud noises, and other hazards is possible. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities. Responsibilities Complete surgical technologist training and clinical requirements. Adhere to AST Standards of Practice. Maintain sterile technique during procedures. Prepare and set up operating rooms and equipment. Assist with surgical procedures, including passing instruments and maintaining sterile fields. Ensure proper documentation and compliance with safety protocols. Perform cleaning, maintenance, and inventory management of supplies and equipment. Support patient care and support activities, including record keeping and PPE usage. Perform other duties as assigned.
