Position Title:
Vertex Technical Consultant with Java programming
Location:
Dallas/LA/GA
Duration:
Fulltime/Contract to Hire/Contract on W2
The Solution Architect with Functional Consultant experience will play a key role in architecture vision and roadmaps for both the current platform and integrated system. This role will provide technical leadership for the evolving architectural capabilities of the entire solution. Works closely with Enterprise Architects and System Engineers to ensure that individual program and product strategies align with business and technical objectives. Facilitates and coordinate design decisions for development teams. Responsible for HLD, AID and business and technical requirements. The professional will lead solution design, configuration, and integration efforts while providing functional guidance to ensure effective adoption of Vertex tax technology.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end architecture and implementation of Vertex tax solutions (Vertex O Series, Vertex Indirect Tax, Vertex Cloud) tailored to business needs. Act as a functional consultant to gather, analyze, and validate tax and business requirements related to indirect tax compliance, automation, and reporting. Design, implement, and manage IT solutions that meet specific business needs. Develop architecture designs, system diagrams, and technical documentation outlining the structure Define higher-level functional Nonfunctional Requirements NFRs Develop functional documentation such as process flows, HLD, AID, Epics and Features Work closely with portfolio stakeholders, customers, Enterprise Architects, System Engineers and development teams Ensure that common technology, design practices, and infrastructure are used when applicable Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Tax, Finance, IT, and external vendors to facilitate smooth solution delivery and adoption. Troubleshoot functional issues and work with technical teams to resolve complex problems. Support ongoing enhancements and upgrades of Vertex systems.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field. 8+ years of experience as a Functional Consultant or Solution Architect in tax technology implementations, preferably with Vertex solutions. Strong functional knowledge of indirect tax concepts, tax compliance processes, and related business operations. Hands-on experience configuring and customizing Vertex tax software (Vertex O Series, Vertex Cloud). Familiarity with ERP systems integration (Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and related tax automation processes. Experience in gathering and translating business requirements into functional and technical specifications. Proficient in process mapping, solution design, and documentation. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to lead cross-functional workshops and training sessions.
Desired Skills :
Understanding of global indirect tax regulations, sales, use tax and compliance standards. Knowledge of tax data flow and reconciliation processes. Experience with HLD, AID, EPICs, Features and business requirements Expert knowledge of Web Services, Java, and XML, RESTful API technologies. Understanding of agile methodology Ability to collaborate effectively with technical architects and developers.
