As aRail Technical Trainer, you will be training the future workforce for Seattle Streetcar and ensuring that safety and quality of services are delivered according to our standards, best practices, and rules. As a member of our Technical Trainer team, you are primarily responsible for developing, supporting, and implementing both classroom and field training programs to sustain all phases of streetcar operations, while evaluating the progress of streetcar operators and personnel throughout the training programs.
Position Information This recruitment will be used to fill one (1) Project- Special Duty Assignment (SDA) and is expected to last approximately eight (8) weeks. The purpose of the position is to assist the Streetcar Technical Trainer to prepare and deliver an upcoming Streetcar Operator Training Class. Empty heading This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for positions defined as safety sensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and, subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substances testing program protocols.

Acting as a designated examiner in the testing and certification of streetcar vehicle operators and other streetcar positions.
Providing customized training, as needed.
Coordinate or assist in training other areas on a project basis.
Support and mentoring new and existing employees by conducting initial, refresher, and retraining for streetcar employees as necessary. This work includes: Developing and providing employee learning materials and program content.
Performing in-service ride checks for revenue and non-revenue operators including post-incident, post-accident, and extended absence ride checks.
Ensuring that trainees, while in training, remain compliant with Metro Rail and Streetcar governing documents and policies including but not limited to: rules, procedures, etc.
Monitoring progress of trainees and providing progress evaluations and periodic counseling, including making recommendations to management when trainees (or employees within their probationary period) are not meeting Streetcar performance standards.
Maintain appropriate records and documentation including: Maintaining complete and accurate documentation on all facets of Streetcar and Rail Division training and testing for each student as required and as mandated by Metro policy and State and Federal law.
Maintaining a variety of electronic reports; performing electronic data input and retrieval; reviewing for accuracy all forms and documents received and forwarding them as appropriate.
Maintain technical expertise
in relevant Streetcar and Rail industry practices and disciplines including: Maintaining current knowledge of training processes, safety principles, Metro rules/policies/procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Evaluating new equipment and changes in existing equipment and incorporates it into training curriculum.
Participating in the testing, certification, and opening of Streetcar extensions.
Participating in the testing and certification of Streetcar vehicles, including trains.
Participating in streetcar audits, emergency drills and simulations.
Researching and preparing technical and administrative reports in support of the Streetcar Section.
Operating streetcar vehicles and perform other related duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience operating a streetcar.
Currently possess a valid Rail Card certifying ability to operate Inekon Trio-12 and Trio-121 trains on SLU and First Hill Streetcar mainlines.
A Washington State Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.
Desired Qualifications: Technical proficiency with Streetcar Rulebook, Standard Operating Procedures, and Standard Maintenance Procedures. At least six months experience operating on both SLU and First Hill Streetcar lines. Working knowledge of (or the ability to gain proficiency with):
Basic streetcar vehicle maintenance principles. Employee performance evaluation, feedback, and counseling methods. State and federal rules and regulations related to rail operations, maintenance, and industrial and transit related safety. Transportation operation and maintenance rules, policies and procedures, forms, records, and documentation requirements. Database systems used for rail rules, policies, procedures, training materials and training records.
Skill in:
Training and/or educating adults. Oral and written communication; reading, writing, presenting, and following detailed instructions. Developing policies, procedures, rules, and reports. Developing training course curricula, classroom materials, presentations, and testing instruments. Evaluating and revising standard and custom training materials. Organizing work, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines. Demonstrating values of respect and equity in working effectively with a diverse population in varying occupations and situations. Problem solving, analyzing, and evaluating efficiency and quality to make recommendations for improvements. Using Microsoft Suite applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
