This critical role involves the microscopic interpretation of gynecological and non-gynecological cytology specimens to diagnose benign and malignant diseases. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to judge what is normal and abnormal while correlating the patient's clinical history and working collaboratively with pathologists. This position is for a Monday through Friday day shift.Key Responsibilities:Perform all stages of gynecological and non-gynecological specimen processing according to established procedures.Use judgment to interpret gynecological and non-gynecological cytology cases.Participate in fine needle aspiration procedures for on-site assessment of specimen adequacy.Be an accurate record keeper to document information.Maintain equipment and reagent solutions according to hospital standards.Store and dispose of specimens properly.QualificationsEducation:Bachelor's of Science (Preferred)Successful completion of Cytotechnology program (Preferred)License:New York State Cytotechnologist (Required)Certification:Thin Prep (Preferred)Imaging (Preferred)Experience:Gynecologic Cytology: 3 years (Required)Conventional and ThinPrep Techniques: 1 year (Preferred)Physical Requirements:The role involves prolonged periods of microscopic work, precise handling of specimens, and attention to detail in record-keeping.Soft Skills:Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.Ability to judge and interpret cytology cases accurately.Collaboration and effective communication with pathologists and other laboratory staff.Accurate record-keeping skills.Adaptability to evolving laboratory techniques and technologies.Compliance with established procedures and standards.
