Central Washington University is recruiting a Medical Assistant to join our Student Health Services team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

This position is a vital member of the patient-centered medical team and is classified as a Certified Medical Assistant. While serving as a backup for clinical medical assistant duties, the primary responsibilities of this role focus on managing referral coordination and prior authorizations. This includes processing, tracking, and following up on referrals and authorizations to ensure timely and efficient continuity of care for patients.

In a backup capacity, this position may assist with direct patient care, including preparing patients for provider visits, documenting pertinent information in the electronic health record (EHR), and supporting clinical procedures. Student Health Services staff directly contribute to the vision, mission, and values of Central Washington University by promoting a safe and healthy campus community for all students. Job Duties - Institutes and maintains referral system, and prior authorizations, for patients as ordered by their provider. - Enters data regarding patient care, laboratory testing and referral information into the EHR. Observe and report patient signs and symptoms. - Understanding and maintaining confidentiality, following HIPAA and FERPA guidelines and requirements. - Will know and apply aseptic and sterile technique and blood borne pathogen and communicable disease control measures. - Cares for patients following aseptic and sterile technique as needed. - Environmental cleaning and care, such as autoclaving, laundry, room cleaning, etc. - Provides general care to a diverse population of patients, within the scope of the license as a Certified Medical Assistant. This includes taking vital signs and preparing patients for examination, capillary blood withdrawal, venipuncture and intradermal, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. - Cares for patients receiving specialized treatments and assists and provides those treatments under supervision of other medical providers, including RNs. - Maintaining Medication and immunization records. - Perform other duties as assigned .

Minimum Qualifications Licensed as a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Washington. At least 1 year experience working in a medical clinic setting providing direct patient care according to scope of license. Experience and training in completing prior authorizations, and referrals, including the creation of word documents. Ability to maneuver and input data into an Electronic Health Record. Valid Healthcare CPR Certification. Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences. OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Preferred Qualifications

1-year clinical experience working with students in a college medical clinic . 1 year experience completing prior authorizations and working with insurance companies on referrals. Experience working with college-aged students from a variety of backgrounds. Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary

: This position is based on the range 41 of the Washington State Classification Listing, which has a minimum annual salary of $21,990 and maximum annual salary of $29,292. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. (adjusted per 0.5 FTE)

Schedule/Appointment

: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm (during academic year) / 8-month cyclic appointment / PSE Bargaining Unit 3

Working Conditions

: The primary responsibilities of this position are desk-based and include coordination of patient referrals and prior authorizations. The individual will work primarily at a computer station, managing documentation, communication with external providers and insurance companies, and supporting efficient care coordination for students. Secondary responsibilities may include assisting in direct patient care as a medical assistant backup. This could involve helping patients move from standing to sitting or lying positions, assisting with patient positioning for medical procedures or x-rays, and providing support during emergencies, including lifting for patient safety and administering CPR if needed. This position operates within a medical facility where there is potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases. The individual must maintain current immunizations and consistently follow all standard medical safety and infection control precautions.
