The County of Del Norte Health and Human Services Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Health Educator I/II. This position is classified as full-time. Description of Basic Function and Responsibility

:

Under direction and supervision, assists with planning, coordinating, and implementing a variety of health and human services related programs; to participate in the departmental activities associated with education and health programs. Employees in this classification receive direct to limited supervision within a framework of policies and procedures. Detailed Work Activities

Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

Participates in the planning, organizing, and evaluating of various public health programs. Prepares educational documents and promotional materials to be utilized in the presentations. Collaborates with various community groups and organizations to encourage an interest in public health; collaborates with health specialists and community groups to determine community health needs and the availability of services and to develop goals for meeting needs. Coordinates and schedules presentations before school groups, community service organizations, church organizations, youth groups, and other interested parties. Determines the materials and resources necessary, such as facilities for presenting programs, and including contacting organizations and community groups for scheduling purposes. Provides group and individual educational counseling for health-related issues, such as tobacco cessation, nutrition, health access, and reproductive health. Presents comprehensive health and human service data and information for answering various questions generated by the information presented. Conducts in-service training of other health and human service professionals in assigned programs. Assists in obtaining survey data for the development of evaluations for program and presentation analysis. Prepares statistical reports for presentation to program administrators and state program representatives. Prepares materials including news releases, pamphlets, newsletters, bulletins, and social media posts/content to publicize and explain health services and programs; prepares educational materials for meetings and training sessions; and maintains a stock of educational materials for distribution. Performs related duties as necessary and required. Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

: Any combination of education, training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Health Educator I: College coursework that includes 30 semester units in health or human services, sociology, or closely related field and one (1) year of experience in a health or human service agency performing counseling or health related education services.

Health Educator II: In addition to the qualifications for the Health Educator I, one (1) year of experience as a Health Educator I or two (2) years in a comparable position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Job Requirements:

Knowledge of:

Effective public presentations which include both oral and visual aids. The principles of interviewing and problem-solving methodology. or ability to learn the principals, methods, techniques, and materials of health education and educational counseling. Environmental, social, economic, cultural, and other issues and recent developments impacting the health of individuals and the community.

Ability to:

Apply education principles and practices as they apply to assigned programs. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of historically minoritized populations and participates in professional development activities to increase cultural competency and health equity practices. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of other agencies, co-workers, and the general public. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax. Compile, analyze and display data. Operate data processing equipment for successful performance of duties. Work weekends, evenings, or other hours necessary to present programs to various groups and the public.

Selection Process:

Condition of Employment:

ELIGIBILITY:

Regular Permanent Full-Time Employees : Eligible for a comprehensive range of benefits

Regular Permanent Part-Time Employees : Eligible for select benefits on a prorated basis, depending on hours worked

Temporary Employees : Not eligible for company benefits Paid annual leave: Vacation: 1-5 years of continuous service: 15 working days per year; 6-10 years of continuous service: 20 working days per year; 11-15 years of continuous service: 25 working days per year; 16 years or higher of continuous service: 30 working days per year. Note - Newly hired employees shall be entitled to use their accrued vacation leave subject to totally accrued hours available.

Sick Leave: 1 day of sick leave with pay for each month of service from the date of employment. Note - Sick leave may be used upon accrual.

Holidays: 13 working days each year.

Floating Holidays: 3 working days each fiscal year. Note - Floating Holidays may be used upon accrual.
