Summary
Manage the technical and business aspects of the medium and large excavator product line for a heavy equipment company to promote share and revenue growth. Bring alignment and execution to the product line strategy, working with overseas factories and local organizations to achieve North American business goals.
Responsibilities
Product / Technical: Partner with international engineering teams to develop and maintain a multi-year product line strategy for the North American market, based on customer and dealer requirements, ensuring alignment.
New Features, options, or configurations for current models Improvements for next-generation models New models not currently in the product line
Define product specifications and performance targets for engineering requests based on field and organizational data, and aligned with North America business goals. Communicate requests and data to engineering teams, detailing customer and dealer requirements, price targets, forecasted sales, and take rates, among other relevant information. Collect the voice of customers and dealers with considerations for various sales channels (dealer, rental, strategic accounts, etc). Develop and communicate proposals at a level of detail suitable for engineers and one that is also suitable for senior management. Review product safety labels, manuals, and other relevant documents to ensure alignment with industry best practices. Collaborate with compliance engineers to ensure new or changing regulations are accounted for in product strategy. Assist the Product Support team in developing field installation instructions, manuals, bulletins, etc. Verification of performance specifications in prototypes and preproduction units, ensuring they meet established targets and market requirements. Evaluate new products both internally and with customers. Field follow-up on newly delivered products to provide feedback to the engineering team. Organize and conduct competitive product benchmarking clinics, providing information and feedback to engineering teams and using competitive information to shape the product line strategy. Business / Sales: Conduct pricing investigation and analysis, and make pricing recommendations for the North American region. Participate in revenue and share growth strategies. Monitor sales and market share using data to drive price and product recommendations. Develop sales forecasts for new options, models, and other products. Assist with bid specs. Marketing: Contribute to the development, review, and approval of marketing materials (brochures, website, etc). Develop or review product sales training materials. Participate in trade shows, customer events, and other relevant activities. Provide product walk-arounds, tutorials, and other marketing materials in person or on video for promotional purposes. Requirements Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. 10 or more years of experience in product engineering, product management, or similar. Ability to communicate cross-culturally, cross-functionally, and up and down the organization. Experienced in project management for both large and small product development projects. Good computer skills with programs such as MS PowerPoint, Excel, etc. Excellent interpersonal, time management, and negotiation skills.
