Brethren Retirement Community is an EEO Employer - M/F/Disability/Protected Veteran Status SUMMARYThe Nurse Manager plans and organizes nursing care for residents of BrethrenRetirement Community. This role directly and indirectly supervises the NursingDepartment staff. Major functions include providing leadership to meet programgoals, managing smooth transitions of elders moving in and out of the facility,and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESNote: Other dutiesmay be assigned•Directdaily operations of the neighborhood, including reviewing 24-hour care providedto elders.•Provideleadership and support for the resident-centered care model.•Ensurequality of care by auditing skin issues, falls, restraints, care plans,infection control, and more. Maintain reports and present findings to theQuality Assurance Process Improvement Committee.•Utilizereports in PCC or other electronic medical record systems; teach and monitorlicensed nurses in software use.•Makeregular rounds to visit acutely or terminally ill residents, newly admitted ortransferred residents, and assist Charge Nurses in assessing resident needs.•Assist with Assisted Living Waiver programs, including all reviews.•Initiate,direct, and supervise staff in delivering Restorative Nursing Programs.•Supportlicensed nursing staff in meeting resident needs, including emergencies,admissions, discharges, and daily care.•Develop,implement, and maintain policies, procedures, standards of practice, qualityassurance, safety, environmental, infection control, and regulatoryrequirements.•Maintainknowledge of Ohio Department of Health laws and regulations; serve as a keycontact during ODH surveys.•Assistwith admission, placement, and transfer of residents to appropriate carelevels.•Resolveproblems referred by Charge Nurses when unresolved at lower levels.•Serveas liaison and multidisciplinary team member among staff, administration,residents, families, physicians, and community members to maintain good rapportand public relations.•Participatein various committees as assigned.•Assistwith Medicare A determinations and other insurance coverage.•Recommendpurchase of special supplies or equipment within budget constraints.•Activelyparticipate in Nurse Manager on-call rotation.•Assistwith other duties as necessary for smooth operations.•Maintaina qualified and efficient Nursing Staff by:o Makingdaily contact with floor staff, observing techniques and services to ensure qualityadherence.o Coordinatingorientation of new nursing staff and recommending educational needs for currentstaff.o Coaching,teaching, mentoring, and counseling nursing staff.o Reviewingand recommending revisions of policies and procedures.o Participatingin staffing assessments, recruitment, hiring, and scheduling within budgetconstraints.o Evaluatingnursing staff performance.o Engagingin long-range planning, projects, and committees to improve resident care andensure regulatory compliance.•Enhanceprofessional and personal growth by:o Attendingeducational programs, in-services, and meetings.o Preparingand presenting in-services and educational programs to staff.o Pursuingadvanced certifications or college courses.o Overseeingassigned operations to maintain privacy and security practices and takingcorrective action if breaches occur.SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIESDirectly supervises Nursing Staff. Responsibilities include interviewing,hiring, training, planning, assigning work, performance appraisal, rewardingand disciplining employees, and addressing complaints and resolving problemsaccording to organizational policies and laws.QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfy all essentialduties. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals withdisabilities to perform essential functions.CERTIFICATIONS,LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSLicensed nurse in the State of Ohio.EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCEAssociate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school;or equivalent combination of education and at least one year experience as acompetent nurse practitioner in a supervisory management role. Basic computerskills required.LANGUAGESKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical journals,financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries orcomplaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.Ability to write speeches and articles in prescribed style. Able to effectivelypresent information to management, public groups, and boards of directors.MATHEMATICALSKILLSAbility to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions,proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Basic algebra andgeometry concepts apply.REASONINGABILITYAbility to solve practical problems and manage concrete variables where limitedstandards exist.
