Job Summary:
The Project Manager for Special Projects is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing a portfolio of high-priority IT initiatives for our client. This individual identifies organizational needs, remediates troubled projects, aligns teams around strategic goals, and ensures that new initiatives are successfully launched and delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. The role requires exceptional communication, leadership, and technical understanding across infrastructure, application development, and enterprise services.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Define and manage project scope, objectives, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with contract terms and priorities
• Assemble and lead cross-functional project teams; assign responsibilities, track progress, and maintain accountability
• Apply project management best practices (to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and close projects
• Create and maintain project plans, schedules, status reports, summaries, and dashboards for mid- and senior-level stakeholders
• Conduct cost/benefit analyses, determine resource requirements, and manage project budgets
• Ensure that project work aligns with architectural, enterprise, and technical standards
• Organize and facilitate meetings, document minutes, track decisions, and manage follow-up actions
• Coach and mentor junior project coordinators on project management techniques and organizational best practices
• Oversee vendor and consultant participation, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and quality standards
• Support change management efforts to ensure smooth transitions and adoption of new systems or processes
• Ensure project documentation, risk logs, and communication plans are consistently maintained
• Apply performance management, disaster recovery, ITIL, and infrastructure concepts as applicable to the project
• Collaborate effectively with departmental officials, vendors, consultants, and interdepartmental stakeholders

Requirements
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 3-5 years of hands-on project management experience leading large, cross-functional teams or initiatives
• 4-6 years of applicable business or IT experience
• Strong knowledge of project management principles and best practices (PMBOK)
• Ability to lead complex projects and influence stakeholders at all levels
• Proficiency in project planning tools and documentation standards
• Experience with systems delivery life cycle (SDLC), ITIL, and budgeting
• Demonstrated ability to organize, lead, and motivate diverse project teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage external vendors and consultants effectively
Preferred:
• PMP Certification or Master's Certificate in Project Management
• Familiarity with infrastructure, cloud computing, data center operations, and managed services
• Experience supporting executive-level leadership and presenting to senior stakeholders
