Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:
The University of Maryland Alumni Association seeks a dynamic and organized Program Manager for Alumni Engagement & Outreach. This individual will serve as the primary liaison to alumni volunteers for regional networks nationwide and will oversee the planning and execution of regional alumni engagement events. The role is pivotal in advancing the Association's mission by fostering lifelong relationships between the university and its alumni through volunteerism, programs, and outreach.
This position will be accountable for:
• Comprehensive leadership and management of regional volunteers and board members, inspiring active participation among alumni networks.
• Ensuring effective communication and maintaining quality alumni data to facilitate meaningful engagement.
• Developing new and cultivating existing relationships to build a strong affinity for the University of Maryland.
• Developing and implementing innovative strategies to engage alumni based on common interests and industries, including connecting alumni with student and campus groups.
• Serve as the program manager for regional events.
• Recruiting and managing diverse, high-performing volunteers, fostering an environment that encourages participation, collaboration, respect, and positive promotion of UMD.
This position is based in the DC Metro area and will be expected to travel locally and regionally up to 50%. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and Board Operations.

Physical Demands: Must be able to travel (plane, train, other) up to 50% of the time is required. Must be able to work across all 4 US time zones.
Licenses/ Certifications: N/A
Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of professional alumni relations, marketing, program development, or volunteer coordination experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of event management. Knowledge of volunteer recruitment and management. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
Additional Job Details
Preferences: -Experience working in higher education or nonprofit preferred. -Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, or similar alumni databases). -Experience with social media, email marketing, and digital engagement tools. -Previous experience in managing alumni volunteer programs or alumni boards/committees -Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. -Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with diverse stakeholders. -Ability to travel occasionally and work evenings/weekends as needed for events. -Experience in higher education, alumni relations, or nonprofit environments. -Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
