Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer Systems Test - X-Lab Test Director (25-313) to join our team of talented and diverse professionals. This position, based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a vital role in supporting the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial part of the Missile Defense System. It is an essential operational system that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively manage designated networked sensors and weapon systems to meet global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC provides a layered missile defense capability that delivers an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a key part of all system ground and flight tests, which verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.
The C2BMC National Team Integration & Test Functional Area urgently requires a Test Director (Element Mission Director) to support the organization and participation in Flight and Ground Tests. The chosen candidate will be responsible for identifying necessary resources, defining and understanding mission objectives for the system(s) under test, developing data archival and analysis plans, and preparing post-mission reports.
Essential Functions:
Serve as a Test Director in the Experimentation Lab
This role involves integrating X-Lab prototypes into an MDA test, coordinating project leads, understanding the prototype's role in the test, mapping the configuration within an architecture, providing briefings on status, and executing the test from the X-Lab
Collaborate with the customer to understand the test requirements and identify ways to meet those needs within resource limits
Will be responsible for managing the configuration and control of test resources, articles, and tools used for data collection during the event
Responsible for configuring a set of lab machines dedicated to specific development tasks
Serve as the liaison to other C2BMC test participants and MDA/BCT test managers
Coordinate with the project leads of different experiments to ensure smooth event execution throughout the entire mission
Develop and maintain the test architecture that includes all articles under test, and also create any supplemental procedures needed to ensure successful execution
Must possess extensive experience in software testing, engineering, or integration
Must understand systems engineering, systems design, and development
Possess at least 8 years of experience in a similar environment, with strong knowledge and expertise in systems-of-systems definition and integration
Ability to analyze high-level needs and, through a structured and logical approach, refine the need into an integrated set of requirements that leads to a fielded product
Ability to lead parts of the project and manage the work of other engineers
Communicate clearly and present technical approaches and findings
Capable of writing and executing engineering plans within a project
Previous experience should show the technical skills and responsibilities of the position listed here

Basic Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Science, Systems Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree

Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs are required
Experience in planning and managing flight, ground test, and Warfighter events
Experience operating C2BMC, knowledge of the system configuration, understanding system operation, navigating display screens, and the concept of system functions
Must have experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions using NT or similar processes and methods
Possess a proven ability to develop briefings and communicate complex ideas clearly in writing, be comfortable working in a team environment, learn quickly, work hard, and be interested and capable of adapting to changing technology
Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills enabling them to work effectively in a small technical team environment and to accurately represent test perspectives to C2BMC system architects, software designers, other testers, test support personnel, government customers, and personnel in other MDA programs

Salary Range: $113,500.00 - $170,300.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
