DESCRIPTION

The IT Technician II is responsible for providing assistance, maintenance, and troubleshooting for hardware, software, and network systems. With a focus on delivering prompt and effective technical support to end-users, the IT Technician II plays an essential role in ensuring the smooth operation of the city's technology infrastructure.

QUALIFICATIONS Associate's degree or technical certification in information technology, computer science, or related field is required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a technical support or IT help desk role, with advanced knowledge and expertise in hardware and software troubleshooting, system administration, and network support required. Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) preferred. Must possess a valid Driver's License at time of placement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of and proficiency in advanced troubleshooting techniques for hardware and software issues, familiarity with server operating systems (e.g., Windows Server, Linux), and expertise in network protocols and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP). Skills in excellent written and verbal communication with strong customer service orientation and the ability to effectively interact with end-users of varying technical abilities. Skills in strong problem-solving and analytical thinking, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently or escalate as needed to higher-level support staff. Ability to maintain high attention to detail and accuracy in performing technical tasks, documenting procedures, and maintaining inventory records to ensure compliance with departmental standards. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and multitask efficiently to meet deadlines and user needs. MAJOR DUTIES

Provide technical assistance and support to end-users, responding to help desk requests, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and resolving technical problems in a timely and effective manner. Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners, and other IT equipment, performing hardware upgrades, repairs, and replacements as needed to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Install, configure, and update software applications, operating systems, and drivers on end-user devices, following established procedures and guidelines to minimize disruptions and ensure compatibility. Assist with basic network troubleshooting tasks, such as connectivity issues, IP address assignments, and Wi-Fi configurations, under the guidance of network administrators or senior IT staff. Assist with system administration tasks, such as user account management, access control, and software license management, ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures. Assist with data backup and recovery operations, including scheduled backups, data restoration, and verification of backup integrity, to ensure data security and minimize data loss in the event of system failures or disasters. Maintain accurate records of IT assets, including hardware, software licenses, and peripherals, tracking inventory levels, conducting audits, and updating asset databases as needed. Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and knowledge base articles to assist end-users and IT staff in troubleshooting common issues and performing routine tasks. Provide training and support to end-users on IT-related topics, such as software applications, security best practices, and use of IT resources, to enhance user proficiency and productivity. Adhere to departmental policies, procedures, and best practices for IT operations, security, and compliance, ensuring that all activities are conducted in accordance with established standards and guidelines. Other duties as assigned.

This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations.
