Position Summary

The Director is responsible for oversight of forensic services operations in the ECU Regional Forensic Pathology Center, directing the provision of coordinated, efficient and effective analytical, investigative, and administrative services. The scope of work includes direct oversight of contracted forensic services; ensuring the efficient operation of the physical facility; managing the operating budget and expenditures; engaging in outward facing communications with community stakeholders, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and other state government partners; and supporting cooperative relationships with law enforcement agencies, the legal-judicial system, and the general public.

Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred major course work in Criminal Justice, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Health Sciences, Forensic Medicine, public health administration or related fields. Experience with investigations of sudden or unusual deaths, and/or post mortem examination of bodies, or providing public health administrative services, or service within the criminal justice profession, including at least two years at a supervisory level. Preferred Requirements

Knowledge of:

Principles of crime and accident investigation, identification and preservation of physical evidence and methods used in presenting evidence in court Photographic, fingerprinting and interviewing principles and techniques Laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, executive orders, agency rules and regulations pertaining to the investigation of deaths Recognized medical causes of death Safety precautions related to forensic investigations The methods, practices and procedures used in the dissection of bodies The clerical and related procedures involved in receiving and releasing bodies Surgical instruments and related equipment needed to dissect bodies Administrative principles, practices and techniques for forensic death investigation and autopsy work Computer software applications related to the work of the forensic operation Public health administration principles, practices, goals and programs Supervisory methods and techniques Budget and fiscal administration Principles, practices and procedures in such administrative areas as human resources management, procurement, contracting Skill in:

Problem-solving among organizational levels and including external stakeholders to achieve mutual objectives Ability to:

Collect, analyze and synthesize information related to cause and manner of death which reflects the investigation and supports the examination and determination by the Medical Examiner Formulate administrative directions and new or alternative strategies to achieve organizational goals and objectives Read, comprehend and apply complex materials that convey scientific, technical, medical, or legal information Present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing Administer the affairs of the ECU Regional Forensic Pathology Center; Direct a staff of forensic investigators and forensic technicians, through subordinate managers Establish and maintain effective relationships with associates within ECU and ECU Health, representatives of governmental agencies, decedent representatives, family members and the general public Maintain records and prepare reports Other Information
