POSITION OVERVIEW

Blue Sky seeks a Data Scientist to assist in making vast amounts of data manageable, meaningful, and more useful for specialized investigative teams addressing high-priority criminal activities. The Data Scientist will provide data exploitation, analysis, statistics, and visualization assistance, working with minimal supervision to standardize, enrich, and visualize large amounts of data from various sources to derive meaningful insights for investigative purposes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Serve as a Data Scientist, working with minimal supervision, in the retrieval, analysis, and recommended use of data from diverse sources Plan, develop, and administer data for utilization, storage, cleaning, conditioning, and retrieval Standardize, enrich, and visualize large amounts of data to allow investigators to derive meaningful insights Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies within complex datasets Fill information gaps and project events based on available dat Develop defensible judgments and conclusions using accepted research methodologies Provide recommendations on new data management technologies and architectures Convert complex data into easy-to-read formats suited for investigator analysis Create code to triage regularly received dat Develop data visualizations for investigative, intelligence, and prosecutorial products Present findings and recommendations to management and stakeholders REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Top Secret clearance with CI Polygraph Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related technical field Knowledge of analytical techniques to determine trends and patterns, fill information gaps, identify anomalies, and develop defensible conclusions Thorough knowledge of data management concepts, principles, and methods for database design Skills in information storage and retrieval, sorting theory, variance analysis, and data sampling Technical expertise in data conditioning, structuring, standardizing, ETL (Extract/Transform/Load), and data visualization Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting and analyzing packages using scripting languages Strong analytical skills with ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail Highly developed oral and written communication skills to present complex findings Demonstrated ability to work effectively under the pressure of tight time frames and deadlines Knowledge of data normalization and database design techniques Understanding of data stores, analytics, and warehousing concepts and methods PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with relational and non-relational database design techniques Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, methods, and technologies Experience with data visualization applications and tools Familiarity with advanced statistical methods and machine learning approaches Experience working with encrypted or darknet-related data sources Background in criminal investigations or law enforcement data analysis

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a full-time position (1920 hours annually) based in the Washington, DC area. The successful candidate will work closely with investigators, analysts, and other technical specialists in a collaborative environment focused on supporting criminal investigations.
