Job Title: 1D Engine Simulation Engineer
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled 1D Engine Simulation Engineer to join the team at Caterpillar's Tech Center in Mossville, IL. The ideal candidate will have experience with 1D engine simulation and GT Suite, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering field.
Key Responsibilities: Develop, validate, and optimize 1D engine models using GT Suite to support engine performance and emissions development. Conduct system-level simulations to analyze combustion, air handling, and thermal management for internal combustion engines. Work closely with design, calibration, and testing teams to integrate simulation insights into product development. Perform sensitivity analyses and optimization studies to enhance engine efficiency and reliability. Provide technical documentation and reports on simulation results and recommendations. Required Qualifications:
Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field. Experience with 1D engine simulation techniques and tools, specifically GT Suite. Strong understanding of internal combustion engine thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and emissions control. Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, or similar) for data analysis and automation. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications:
Industry experience in engine development or powertrain simulation. Experience with experimental validation of simulation models. Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine performance tuning.
