Introduction Introduction:

The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a licensed driver, whose priority is safety for all bus riders to include counselor staff, the Before/After participants and the Summer Camp Participants. Participants in these programs range from ages of 6 to 14 years. The selected individuals will be responsible for transporting school children on a passenger van and/or school bus to and from school each morning and afternoon, plus occasional field trips.

The incumbent must: Enjoy interacting with children and program counselor staff Be able to make quick, critical decisions as safety is our number one priority. Driver will be required to perform all pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report issues immediately. Driver will, along with van attendant, safely transport all children to and from school on time and ensure full compliance with all policies and procedures. Driver will be based at the Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center in Lake Ridge. Typical shifts Monday-Friday during the school year; 7:00 am - 9:30 am and 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm - school days. Schedule may vary on non-school days and during summer camp months.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

8th grade education and 0-12 months of related experience. This position requires 12 months of experience driving a passenger van in a childcare setting. This position requires 12 months of experience in dealing with the public. This position requires a valid Driver's License and CDL.

The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV records checks on all licensed employees and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years and older.

NATURE OF WORK This class is part of the Transportation Services Job Family. Incumbents operate a County vehicle for delivering mail or providing bus service to senior and special need program participants. Responsibilities may include: driving buses, courier vehicle or catering truck; ensuring the safety of passengers and the accurate and timely delivery of mail and meals; keeping records of mileage; cleaning and maintaining vehicles; maintaining regular communication with program participants and other individuals or departments. Distinguishing Characteristics

This position is responsible for operating buses, courier vehicles, and catering trucks, ensuring passenger safety, maintaining delivery schedules, and cleaning and maintained operation vehicles. TYPICAL CLASS RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Operates buses, courier vehicles, and/or catering trucks for the purpose of loading and delivering mail and transporting senior and special need program participants; and ensures timely delivery of transported individuals and/or materials. 2. Performs vehicle inspections before and after operation to ensure vehicles are operating in a safe and efficient manner; and ensures passengers comply with applicable safety procedures. 3. Prepares outgoing mail parcels by ensuring accurate sorting, postage, and delivery information. 4. Maintains operation logs, safety logs, vehicle performance issues, and related documentation. 5. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Incumbents in this position typically require a valid Driver's License. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
